Neurodiversity encompasses all neurodifferences within the human population.

vs.

Neurodivergent is intended to describe a person whose brain type is considered different from the “norm” or neurotypical.

Resource

  • People who experience OCD, ADHD, Autism, PTSD, CPTSD, Dyslexia, and Tourettes are considered Neurodivergent. This is not a comprehensive list.

  • People who are neurodivergent process information differently and often more significantly than others. Living in a world geared toward neurotypicals can be very draining for this population. This can lead to acute or chronic dorsal vagal shutdown.

  • Often, Neurodivergent individuals work better with “bottom up” approaches within therapy which includes but are not limited to, EMDR, Sensorimotor Therapy, Polyvagal Therapy, EMDR, and IFS.
